“Remarkable experience in which you get to travel and experience the local community!”

The yoga was incredible! Practicing in the Chalet, looking out across the amazing Japanese garden was a truly wonderful experience. The experiences within the local community were planned beautifully and were absolutely amazing. It’s rare that you get to travel and experience the local community rather than being a tourist, which was a remarkable experience. Haruka and her team managed to find a beautiful balance of time alone, time in reflection, time together and time exploring and participating in beautiful cultural experiences. You get so much value with this retreat. The accommodation is truly incredible and adds significantly to the enjoyment of the experience. I can’t recommend it enough. Looking forward to coming back and experiencing it all over again with the autumn leaves.

Greta ~ Australia.

“A way to spend culturally significant time off !”

If you are looking for a way to spend culturally significant time off the beaten path in Japan I highly recommend Prana Retreat. It felt like spending time with friends and family as opposed to being shuffled from here to there with a group of tourists. Several times I had to stop and take a moment of gratitude at what I was a part of. The beauty of the region. A visit from and meditation with a Buddhist monk for example. Yoga was a part of each day but there are so many more reasons to spend your time here. When I talk about my 3 weeks in Japan, this will be where I start.

Lisa ~ Canada.

Meet The Facilitator

Prana Retreat Japan - Founder and organizer, Haruka Sasaki

Haruka Sasaki

Retreat Facilitator and Yoga teacher

Born and raised in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. A yoga instructor based in Darwin, Australia since 2014. After moving to Australia, I started teaching asanas and breathing techniques at a local university and yoga studios, and also got involved in local yoga festivals and events. I study yoga philosophy in the tradition of Krishnamacharya, and since 2021, I have been running an online yoga school called Shraddhaa Yoga Institute, specializing in yoga philosophy and theory.

During my university days in Japan, I participated in a community revitalization project in a rural area of Kyushu. It served as a catalyst for contemplating how I could personally contribute to the challenges Japan faces, such as rapid aging society, declining birth rates, and rural depopulation.

As time went on living away from Japan, I started thinking about how I could share the goodness of my hometown, Fukuoka, and give back to the community. This led me to initiate the activities of Prana Retreat Japan, where I strive to showcase the local attractions while offering yoga programs to people from around the world.

I am a passionate gardener at a community garden in Australia, and enjoy cooking, camping and chanting in my free time.
